It was a back and forth game to say the least between Key West and Marathon on Wednesday night at Tommy Roberts Memorial Stadium. Earlier this season, Marathon escaped a close one at home defeating this same Key West team 3-2. Led by Angela Niles with two goals, the Lady Conchs came back down 1-0 to win 2-1 over the Keys rival and avenge the loss from earlier this year.

It was all Marathon in the first half. The Dolphins were in full control and passed the ball around dominantly on offense. The only offense for the Lady Conchs in the first half came from Niles who had four total shots on goal before the first water break. However, Marathon was first to get on the board. In the 18th minute, senior Chandler Elliott broke through the Key West defense and gave the Dolphins an early 1-0 lead.

Early second half, Eliott shot the ball and nearly scored again but Key West keeper Alana Estenoz made a great save keeping the deficit to only one point. It wouldn’t be until the 49th minute when Niles would finally find the back of the net and tie the game at one a piece.

Niles wouldn’t be done. In the 67th minute, the Key West striker took a hard hit and was given a free kick right outside the box. The Marathon defensive wall jumped as Niles shot, however it wouldn’t be enough. Niles scored her second goal of the game, this time securing a 2-1 victory over Marathon High School.
