Conchs splits series with Lightning

Behind a strong start from Senior Damon Taylor, the Key West Conchs picked up their fifth win of the season over the Cypress Bay Lightning. The strong defense and impressive performance from Taylor kept the game low scoring as Cypress left the bases loaded two straight innings. Despite a late rally from the Lightning, Key West came out on top 4-3. The following night, Cypress Bay took care of business and split series, winning 7-4 over the Conchs.

Up next for Key West (5-3) is the only other team in the 5A-District 16, Keys Gate Charter (4-5). The Conchs travel up north on Tuesday to face the Knights in a match up that will determine who has a shot at taking down Gulliver Prep, the third team in the District. On February 24th, the Knights lost the Gulliver Prep 13-1, while Key West lost only 2-0 against the Raiders the following week. The game on Wednesday may very well be a preview of what is to come in the District 16 semifinal game.

Three days later, the Conchs return home for a two game series at Rex Weech Field against the Hernando Leopards. The Leopards (6-4) are also a 5A team, in District 7.
